 A quick note about privacy

GIS4 wildlife offers personalized and customized web platforms for wildlife movement analytics. The product Wildlife Tracker v0.2 (hereafter “product”) uses Movebank (hereafter “database”) as a secure database and it is connected through API requests. Once, the product is configured with a specific database ID, the data can be accessed, visualized, and analyzed only with the user’s database credentials. It means that only the users who are authorized to access the data in the database can do so with their personal credentials and no one else. The product does not store users’ credentials or data at any moment.

  1. Scope

This privacy policy applies to personal information processed and collected by GIS4 wildlife (hereafter “we”, “us”, and “our”) in connection with our product, newsletter, and web hostage. Also to the database information shared with us and to the personal and customized web-platform (hereafter “web-product”) created by our services.

  2. About user’s personal information

2.1 User’s connection with the database

We connect users’ credentials directly with the database through API requests. So, we never see or store a user’s credentials at any moment.

    2.2 Communication through a newsletter

We may collect personal information from users or the public in general such as the email address for communication purposes. The communication through subscription to the newsletter is voluntary and merely to receive news about the development of our product.

  3. About user’s data in our product

    3.1 Private data processing

User’s private data is accessed, visualized, and processed in our product but not stored at any moment. Other users with database credentials can access, visualize and process the data only if the data owner authorizes it and if the web-product is shared. Data owners authorize access to other users in the database configuration.

    3.2 Public data processing

User’s public data is accessed, visualized, and processed in our product but not stored at any moment. But users may be aware that every other user with database credentials can access, visualize, and process the public data only if the web-product is shared.

    3.3 Database information

The web-product is meant to work with specific data through database ID. Each web-product has a private configuration where the database ID is stored and only we have access. We collect the database ID for each user who is using our services but we do not share this database information with third parties.

  4. Web hostage

    4.1 Link of user web-product

We provide to the users a private link that gives access to their web-product. The link does not contain any information stored but only the framework for user access. As mentioned before, only users authorized to access the data can make the web-product works with database credentials. It is the responsibility of data owners and web-product owners to whom they grant access or share the web-product. We do not share the web-product link with third parties.

    4.2 Web-product security

If the user requires it is possible to add a password to the web-product. This password blocks the visualization of the framework and only users with the unique password can visualize the framework. Once the framework is accessed, the product will require database credentials with all the conditions that were explained and specified in section 3. We do not share this unique password with third parties.

  5. Web analytics

    5.1 Usage data

Information about the usage of the framework may be stored from our cloud provider Streamlit, Inc. The information collected includes IP address, user settings, unique identifiers associated with the browser or device, details about the browser, operating system, location of the IP address, internet service provider. The purpose includes statistical and performance information related to the operation and use of the framework. This section is referenced from Streamlit, Inc. Privacy policy at https://streamlit.io/privacy-policy section 2.6.
